It’s also one of the easiest sections to reach from central Beijing.
If standing on the Great Wall’s most famous section matters to you, Badaling remains an excellent choice.
Just expect to share it with many other visitors.

Why Is the Great Wall Called 长城 (Chángchéng)?
In Chinese, the Great Wall is called 长城 (Chángchéng), literally meaning “Long Wall.”
Rather than one continuous wall built all at once, it is a network of defensive walls, fortresses and watchtowers constructed, rebuilt and extended by different dynasties over more than two thousand years.
Understanding this helps explain why different sections of the Great Wall can feel surprisingly different from one another.
