🍜☕ Two Things Dad Never Gets Sick of in Hanoi
Dad loves two things in Hanoi.
PHỞ.
Phở — pronounced roughly “fuh”, not “foe.” 😂
And…
COFFEE.
But Dad doesn’t spend the whole day moving from one bowl to one cup.
That would be ridiculous.
😂
The best part happens in between.
Walk.
Look.
Click.
Get a little lost in the Hanoi Old Quarter.
Sit down when you feel like it.
Eat when you’re hungry.
Coffee when you want to slow down.
THAT’S DAD’S HANOI.
🍜 Early Lunch First

Dad isn’t going to describe every ingredient.
Look at the bowl.
😂🍜
It’s lunchtime.
You’re in Hanoi.
The phở arrives.
Steam.
Broth.
Noodles.
EAT.
No rush.
The Old Quarter will still be there when you’re finished.
🚶 Then Dad Walks
Lunch done.
Nowhere Dad urgently needs to be.
Perfect.
😂
Walk into the Hanoi Old Quarter.

Turn down another street.
Look up.
Look across.
Look behind you.
Dad walks.
Dad looks.
Dad clicks.
📸
Motorbikes.
Old buildings.
Little shops.
Trees.
People eating.
People drinking.
People going about their lives.
Don’t turn Hanoi into a checklist.
LET HANOI COME TO YOU.
☕ Afternoon Coffee

Eventually…
Dad’s feet say:
Enough.
😂
Time for coffee.
Sit down.
Order.
Watch the street.
No attraction to complete.
No timetable to beat.
Just Hanoi outside…
and coffee in front of you.
☕
THIS IS TRAVEL TOO.
🚶 Then Walk Some More
Coffee finished.
Dad gets up.
Back into the Old Quarter.
Another street.
Another corner.
Another photograph.
📸
You don’t have to know exactly where every walk is going.
Sometimes that’s the point.
SLOW DOWN.
Hanoi becomes much more interesting when you’re not trying to finish it.
And Dad sees phở.
Again?
WHY NOT? 😂

Different time.
Different place.
Different bowl.
Dad doesn’t get sick of this.
🍜
😂 Dad’s Traveling Companion Understands Hanoi Too

By now…
even Dad’s traveling companion understands.
Vietnamese conical hat.
Hanoi.
No hurry.
😂
Dad has nowhere important to rush to.
There are still streets to wander.
And the evening is just beginning.
Dad has walked enough.
Dinner time.
🍜 Would Dad Eat Phở Again?

Look at that.
Do we really need an explanation?
😂
NO.
Dad could eat another bowl tomorrow.
And probably will.
After Early Dinner… Wind Down

Then Dad found this.
A coffee house.
Motorbikes.
A cyclo passing.
An old building.
A huge tree.
People moving through the street.
Hanoi carrying on around him.
And Dad?
Dad can finally stop walking.
☕
Sit down.
Have another coffee.
Watch.
Listen.
Wind down.
THIS IS THE HANOI DAD LOVES.
Not just the attractions.
Not just the phở.
Not just the coffee.
It’s everything happening between them.
❤️ How Do You Fall in Love With Hanoi?
Dad thinks you need to give the city some time.
Not necessarily more attractions.
MORE TIME.
Time to walk without rushing.
Time to notice an old building.
Time to watch a cyclo pass.
Time to take a photograph for absolutely no reason.
Time to sit over coffee longer than necessary.
Time to get hungry again.
😂
Hanoi doesn’t always need to entertain you.
Sometimes…
YOU JUST NEED TO BE IN HANOI.
That’s slow travel.
And perhaps that’s how a city quietly gets under your skin.
Is Hanoi Worth Visiting?
DAD SAYS GO! 👍
Come to see Hanoi.
But don’t spend the whole trip trying to see Hanoi.
There’s a difference.
Walk the Old Quarter.
Stop.
Look.
Click.
Eat.
Sit.
Talk.
Watch the city.
Then continue walking.
Lunch can be phở.
🍜
Afternoon can be coffee.
☕
Dinner?
Dad wouldn’t mind phở again.
😂
And after dinner…
find somewhere for another coffee.
Sit down.
The walking is finished.
The day is almost finished.
But Hanoi is still happening around you.
LET IT.

DAD SAYS GO!
Dad’s Hanoi isn’t:
PHỞ → COFFEE → PHỞ → COFFEE.
It’s:
PHỞ.
Then…
HANOI.
Walk it.
Photograph it.
Get a little lost in it.
Slow down.
Then coffee.
☕
Walk some more.
Have dinner.
Watch Hanoi change as the day disappears.
And when your feet finally tell you they’ve had enough…
find a coffee house.
Sit down.
Look at the street.
And do absolutely nothing for a while.
THAT’S HOW DAD FALLS IN LOVE WITH HANOI.
