✈️ Beijing Daxing Airport Welcomes You — And Sends You Off in Style
An airport is supposed to get you from one place to another.
Then Dad arrived at Beijing Daxing International Airport (北京大兴国际机场, Běijīng Dàxīng Guójì Jīchǎng).
Okay.
THIS DOESN’T LOOK LIKE AN ORDINARY AIRPORT. 😂
Look at those lines.
Look at the reflections.
Look at the space.
And we hadn’t even properly started exploring yet.
EVEN THE JOURNEY INTO THE AIRPORT FEELS DIFFERENT
Elaine’s panda was coming along too. 😂🐼
Train.
Terminal.
Flight.
Simple.
But then we stepped into the main terminal…
WOW.
Dad stopped.
Looked up.
And understood why people photograph airports.
WAIT… WHICH BEIJING AIRPORT?
One quick thing before we continue. 😂
Beijing has two major international airports:
Beijing Daxing International Airport (北京大兴国际机场) — PKX
and
Beijing Capital International Airport (北京首都国际机场) — PEK
They are different airports in different parts of Beijing.
This story is about Daxing — PKX.
So when booking your flight or heading to the airport:

Behind us:
北京中轴
Beijing Central Axis.
The historic 7.8 km Beijing Central Axis became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2024.
But here’s the little surprise:
THE AXIS DIDN’T STOP THERE.
Modern Beijing’s planning extends the Central Axis southward…
ALL THE WAY TO DAXING AIRPORT. ✈️
So Dad and Elaine weren’t just standing beside a random airport display.
PKX sits at the southern end of Beijing’s modern Central Axis extension.
Old Beijing → modern Beijing → Daxing.
One line.
Centuries apart.
😂
Okay.
Now Beijing can send us home.
🌅 THEN DAXING GAVE US THIS
Dad looked through the terminal windows.
A plane climbed into the Beijing sky.
The sun was going down.
And suddenly the airport wasn’t something we were trying to get through.
It became part of the journey.
DON’T RUSH.
Sometimes China gives you one more photograph before you leave.
👟 SO DAD WENT WALKING
Our flight wasn’t going anywhere without us.
😂
So Dad explored.
Curves above.
Reflections below.
Huge open spaces in between.
And surprisingly easy signs to follow.
Dad’s airport rule:
IF YOU HAVE TIME, WALK.
You never know what you’ll find.
🍜 AND YES… YOU CAN STILL GET YOUR CHINA NOODLE FIX
This made Dad smile. 😂
Almost time to leave China…
and there were still noodles waiting.
International airport outside.
China inside.
If you’re hungry before the flight, don’t automatically assume your only choices will be international fast food.
Have a look around first.
There may still be time for…
ONE LAST BOWL. 🍜
✈️ AND THEN… THE GATE
Eventually, every trip reaches this moment.
Gate signs.
Carry-on bags.
Boarding passes.
And yes…
McDonald’s. 😂
From Chinese noodles to McDonald’s within a few minutes’ walk.
That’s an international airport for you.
But now there was nowhere else to wander.
Our Beijing journey was ending.
