- Gexian Village — I’d skip it from Shanghai. The travel involved makes much less sense for a day trip when several rewarding destinations are much closer.
One other possibility is Zhujiajiao. It’s much closer to Shanghai and useful if you want a relaxed half/full day in a water town without dealing with an intercity trip. But if you’re already visiting Suzhou, I wouldn’t prioritize both—the experience overlaps somewhat.

3. Nanjing (preferably overnight)
